ADAS Calibration in San Jose, CA
Lane departure and lane keeping camera calibration in our own shop, after an alignment, suspension work or a windshield replacement.
What ADAS is
ADAS stands for advanced driver assistance systems: lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and similar features. Most of them see the road through a camera mounted behind the windshield, and some add a radar sensor in the grille or bumper. Toyota calls its version Toyota Safety Sense, Lexus calls it Lexus Safety System+, Honda calls it Honda Sensing and Subaru calls it EyeSight.
Why calibration matters
A lane departure camera has to know exactly where straight ahead is. If it is aimed even slightly off, the system can warn at the wrong time, nudge the car toward one side of the lane, or switch itself off and light a warning on the dash.
When a calibration is needed
Requirements vary by carmaker, and we follow the procedure for your car. Common triggers:
- A wheel alignment. Toyota's Collision Pros guidance (2018) lists a wheel alignment among the events that require its radar sensor to be aligned and calibrated. Honda's 2021 guidance says calibration is not required after an alignment unless the service manual calls for it.
- A windshield replacement on cars with a camera behind the glass. Subaru, for example, requires EyeSight calibration after the windshield is replaced.
- Suspension work or a ride height change, or a collision near the camera or sensors, even a minor one.
- A warning light or message about the lane keeping or pre-collision system.
What we do
We do ADAS calibration in our own shop. We scan the car's systems for stored codes and confirm the wheel alignment is within specification, because a camera calibrated on a misaligned car ends up aimed wrong. Then we calibrate the camera to the carmaker's procedure and confirm the system works. We calibrate lane departure and lane keeping cameras here. For radar-based systems, call with your year and model.
Why do it with the alignment
Since we do alignments and calibration in the same shop, your car does not have to go to one place for the alignment and another for the calibration.
What it costs
Calibration depends on the car and the systems it has, so we quote it in writing before we start. See our current specials.
The fine print
- ADAS features assist the driver. They do not replace attentive driving, and no calibration makes a car crash-proof.
- Some systems, models and model years need procedures or tools only a dealer has. If yours is one of them, we tell you before any work.
- Toyota Safety Sense, Lexus Safety System+, Honda Sensing and EyeSight are trademarks of their respective owners. LTBM Auto Service Center is an independent repair shop and is not affiliated with or endorsed by these automakers.

Questions we hear every week.
What is ADAS calibration?
It aims the camera, and on some cars the radar, that runs features like lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, so the system knows exactly where straight ahead is. It is done to the carmaker's procedure.
Do I need ADAS calibration after a wheel alignment?
It depends on the carmaker. Toyota's Collision Pros guidance lists a wheel alignment among the events that require its radar sensor to be calibrated. Honda says calibration is not required after an alignment unless the service manual calls for it. We follow the procedure for your car.
Do I need calibration after a windshield replacement?
On cars with a camera behind the windshield, usually yes. Subaru, for example, requires EyeSight calibration after the windshield is replaced. If your lane keeping system acts up after new glass, have it checked.
What happens if the lane departure camera is not calibrated?
The system can warn at the wrong time, nudge the car toward one side of the lane, or turn itself off and show a warning. It is a safety system, so it is worth getting right.
Can you calibrate Toyota Safety Sense and Lexus Safety System+ cameras?
Yes. Toyota and Lexus are our specialty, and we calibrate lane departure and lane keeping cameras in-house. For radar-based systems, call with your year and model.
How much does ADAS calibration cost?
It depends on the car and the systems it has, so we quote it in writing before we start. Doing it in the same shop as the alignment saves a trip to a second shop.
